Week 37 Update: Starting to get sick but had a great climb in the Uintas.

Week 37 Update: Mar 07, 2014 for the week beginning on February 16th, 2014

Better late than never. The wheels came off the cart. Yep, I hit the wall. After an awesome Summit Sunday, I fell apart. I had that sense that something was not right after last week but couldn't put my finger on it. This week, it all came together. A lousy week at work, a fatigue-ridden body, and some horrendous nights of sleep (if you call tossing and turning sleep). All in all, it was a forgettable week. My friend Bob make a remark the other day that stuck with me and kept my spirits up. He said, the days we make the most gains are the bad days we push through; little to no gains are made when we feel great. Bob may not have known that I was feeling like crap but his words were refreshing. Thanks Bob for unwittingly helping me through a lousy week.

Then, we headed off for Utah for some climbing. Finally! I figured I would be able to rest up and recover from the lousy week. No luck on that end either. I seem to have come down with a bug on the trip that straddled weeks 37 and 38. This update for the pre-Utah week and the first two days. Next update includes the last two days and then the long slog of recovery that followed. Here goes nothing….

Workout Progress

There was no progress. Not this week. I was limited by poor recovery and the fact that I was starting to get sick. No swimming, no lifting, no training. Ugh. Here is the profile. Not terribly impressive….

The peaks on Friday and Saturday were our climbing days. I felt great climbing. Just tired from a long week. Traveling a month before a big expedition was probably a poor choice. Oh well. At least I have my poor choice documented for the future.

The big history of my workouts give me strength to overcome these lousy weeks. I know I have plenty stored in the bank for even a month off from training.

Just added a bunch of zeros. Not much to look at here. Move along….

Again, zeros above and little accumulation below.

Weekly Summary

I capped off a poor training week with some great climbing in the Uinta range outside Orem, UT. We were a bit pressed by everyone's travel/work schedules but we managed to get in two full days of climbing. I have tons of pictures and many I already posted on Google+. As soon as I shake this bug, I will post more.

Mood

Getting sick always puts a damper on my mood. I was really flying high after climbing. Then…..not good.

Hypoxic Training

No hypoxic training while in Utah. We had enough with the climb and the 5-10,000 feet of altitude - real altitude and not simulated altitude via my hypoxic generator. It was great to be in the mountains again.

Recovery (Restwise Data)

Ugh! Not recovering. Fighting a bug.

Updates for the week

My first of two updates today. This week at least had some positives - climbing. Next week is not as positive. I warned you….
